And we can understand that buying a laptop in a market flooded with numerous brands and options may not seem easy. That’s why we have compiled the list of the best laptops for working from home 2022 edition.

What is the best laptop for working from home in 2022?

The Dell XPS 15 9520 is our top pick if you want a straightforward answer. You can check out other laptops below that might suit your needs.

Which laptop is best for everyday use?

The Asus Zenbook Flip 13 OLED, Asus Chromebook Flip C433, and the Dell XPS 15 are great for daily use, including checking social media, browsing the web, and working on Word documents with spreadsheets.

What specs laptop do I need for working from home?

CPU

If your work only includes you typing out word documents and working on spreadsheets, then something as low-end as a Core i3 would serve you fine. And on top of that, if you plan to play games after work, then at a minimum, we would recommend a Core i5.

However, if your nature of work requires you to work on 3D modeling, CAD, graphic design, or if you plan to play games after work, then you should consider going with a Core i7 or a Core i9 processor.

RAM

We recommend at least 16GB of RAM, though you can also settle with 8GB if you only plan to work on word documents with a few chrome tabs open. Anything more than that, and you would need more RAM.

But if your work includes graphic design, CAD, 3D modeling, music production, etc. You need 16GB RAM or more

Storage

You could be fine with 512GB if you only work with word documents and spreadsheets. However, we recommend 1TB or more if you work with overall big project files.

GPU

You would be fine with Intel Integrated Iris Graphics or AMD Integrated Graphics if you just plan to work on word documents and spreadsheets. But if you plan to do graphic designing or demand CAD work, you would need a dedicated GPU.

If you are tight on budget, we recommend an RTX 3050ti, but if you can spend more, get the RTX 3070 or something even more powerful.

10 Best laptops for working from home 2022 Edition

Dell XPS 15 9520 2022 Model

Dell XPS 15 9520

CPU: 12th Gen Core i7 12700h | GPU: RTX 3050 | RAM: 16GB DDR5 RAM | Display: 15.6” 1920×1200 60Hz | Storage: 512GB SSD | Battery: 86Wh | OS: Windows 11

The Dell XPS 15 is a solid all-rounder laptop for working from home. The aluminum chassis gives the XPS 15 rigidity and provides an overall premium feel.

The premium feel is carried over to the keyboard deck with its carbon fiber finish. And the keyboard provides a great typing experience with medium travel and nice tactile feedback. Allowing you to type on word documents quickly and go on long typing sessions without your fingers fatiguing.

The 15.6-inch display is also crisp and produces bright colors thanks to 100% sRGB coverage. Making it great for content consumption when you are done with work. And the 1080p webcam does the job fine for zoom meetings.

The Core i7 and 16GB RAM are ample for working on a word document while having numerous chrome tabs open in the background.

The RTX 3050 though underpowered, can allow you to relax after getting done with work by playing some casual games. The 512GB SSD is enough for storing many word documents and a few games.

Though XPS 15 falls short in I/O by not having an HDMI port. But the Dell XPS 15 is one of the best laptops for working from home overall.

Weighing around 1.19kg, the LG Gram is one of the lightest laptops available on the market. Though its Magnese alloy chassis may not have the greatest rigidity, it still passes the seven-grade military certification, so you can carry it and commute with it.

The keyboard is great for long typing sessions thanks to its keys that have medium travel, providing excellent feedback. Though it comes with a bit cramped Numpad, it is still welcomed for someone who works with numbers a lot, like an accountant. And its trackpad is spacious enough for you to move around freely.

It also has a crisp 1080p display with great color accuracy and decent brightness. The LG Gram also provides an excellent battery life lasting around 16 hours on a single charge. And the Core i7 and 16GB RAM are more than enough for working on word documents and spreadsheets.

Though we won’t recommend playing demanding games or working on graphic-intensive workloads. Not just because of the Intel Iris Graphics, but because of its limiting 256GB SSD. We recommend you upgrade the storage if you plan to the LG Gram.

It also has a beautiful 1080p touch display that can open easily and flip into tablet mode. The display also supports stylus input though it does not come with one.

Regarding the typing experience, the Acer Flip C433 is not the greatest but gets the job done. The keys have short travel. that makes you feel like your stroke stopped abruptly mid-way, but it gives off a nice tactile click. The keys are also spaced out nicely, allowing you to hit every key properly. Though the only gripe we have with the keyboard is that its backlight makes the legend on the keyboard hard to read in a well-lit room.

The Acer Flip C433 also provides excellent performance thanks to its Intel Core m3 processor and 8GB RAM, allowing you to easily multitask while working on something like spreadsheets.

The battery life is also impressive, lasting around 10 hours, allowing you to stay away from a power outlet for the entire day without worrying about charging it.

SAMSUNG 15.6” Galaxy Book 2 Pro Laptop |  Best Laptop for Working From Home with a Quiet Keyboard

SAMSUNG 15.6” Galaxy Book2 Pro Laptop

CPU: 12th Gen i5 1240p | GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics  RAM: 8GB RAM | Display: 15.6” 1920×1080 60Hz OLED | Storage: 512GB SSD | Battery: 67Wh | OS: Windows 11

The Galaxy Book 2 Pro is another solid option for someone looking for the best laptop for working from home. Its beautiful 1080p OLED display is a delight to look at, thanks to its punchy colors and inky blacks. Making it perfect for someone thinking of watching a movie after a busy day of work.

Speaking of work, the 12th gen Core i5 and 8GB RAM does the job fine when it comes to working with few chrome tabs and spreadsheets, however, if you are someone who has 30+ tabs open while working and you can’t afford to close those tabs, then you might have a bad time considering that you can’t upgrade the RAM on the Galaxy Book 2 Pro.

Furthermore, you can’t do graphic-intensive tasks on the Galaxy Book 2 Pro, such as gaming or video rendering, since it doesn’t have a discrete GPU. As for the rest of the system, the Galaxy Book 2 Pro has a very clean look thanks to the graphite tone color on its lid and keyboard deck, which are made of metal and plastic, respectively.

The keyboard is not the best out of the bunch. Though it features a Numpad, it’s quite cramped. and the arrow keys are very weirdly placed. However, despite having low travel, it’s quite pleasant to type on.

The short travel allows the keyboard to be quiet rather than clicky. Making it perfect for someone who works late at night and doesn’t want to wake their significant other up.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Beautiful OLED Display
  • Impressive Performance
  • Outstanding Battery Life
Cons
  • 8GB RAM is not enough

CPU: 12th Gen i5 1240p | GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics  RAM: 8GB RAM | Display: 16” 2560×1600 60Hz | Storage: 512GB SSD | Battery: 71Wh | OS: Windows 11

The Yoga 7i is a solid convertible laptop by Lenovo.  The Yoga 7i, one of the best laptops for working from home, is its 16:10 display. The 91% screen-to-body ratio makes the 16-inch 2560×1600 display almost bezel-less.

The Yoga 7i has a beautiful touch IPS display with great vibrant and punchy color, which makes it ideal for content consumption after you are done with work. The display also comfortably gets bright up to 384 nits allowing you to use the Yoga 7i in daylight.

The Yoga 7i has impressive quad speakers that output clear mids, highs, and noticeable bass.

The keyboard is nothing out of the ordinary, the keys are well spaced out, and it also features a Numpad. The keys feel shallower due to having short travel, which leads them to have quicker actuation, allowing you to type faster.

The Core i5 and 8GB RAM are sufficient for someone with nothing going on. If you work with only a few browser tabs, the Yoga 7i will provide you with a smooth experience. However, if you have a couple of apps on startups and you work with 15-20 chrome tabs at a time, then the limiting RAM of the Yoga 7i will cause problems.

The Yoga 7i also has a decent battery life by, lasting 7-8 hours with ease. That is just enough to last the entire day. And to hold it all together, the Yoga 7i comes in a sleek metal chassis that gives it rigidity.

Overall if you want a convertible laptop with a crispy display, you can’t go wrong with the Lenovo Yoga 7i.

ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 OLED Ultra Slim 2-in-1 Laptop | Best Color Accurate Laptop for Working from Home

Asus ZenBook Flip13

CPU: 11th Gen i7 1165G7 | GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics  RAM: 16GB RAM | Display: 16” 2560×1600 60Hz | Storage: 1TB SSD | Battery: 67Wh | OS: Windows 11

If you are a graphic designer working from home, then the Asus Zenbook Flip 13 OLED is the one for you. Its color-accurate 13-inch OLED display makes the Zenbook Flip 13 one of the best laptops for working from home.

The display outputs deep blacks with punchy, vibrant colors. The display covers 100% of DCI-P3 color space and comfortably gets bright up to 350nits,  which makes the Zenbook Flip 13 perfect for color-sensitive work.

Unlike other laptops, the Zenbook Flip 13 also comes with a stylus in the box. This can help you get started immediately with illustrations and other creative work.

The Zenbook Flip 13 also provides a great typing experience. The keys aren’t clicky, but the short travel and grippy keys allow you to type accurately and fast. The laptop’s battery life is also impressive, lasting around 10 hours comfortably on casual use, making it the perfect daily laptop.

The Core i7 processor is powerful enough to run programs like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. However, don’t expect to do GPU-intensive tasks such as video editing or animations as the Zenbook Flip 13 lacks a dedicated GPU.

16GB RAM is ample for most use cases. However, don’t buy the Zenbook Flip 13 with the hopes of upgrading the RAM in the future, as the RAM on this laptop is not upgradeable. And neither is the SSD, so if you feel like 1TB is not enough, you might consider buying an external hard drive.

Cons

ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 (2022) | Best Powerful Laptop for Working From Home

Asus ROG Scar Strix 15

CPU: 12th Gen i9 12900h | GPU:RTX 3070ti  RAM: 16GB DDR5 RAM | Display: 15.6” 2560 x 1440 300Hz | Storage: 1TB SSD | Battery: 90Wh | OS: Windows 11

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 is one of the best laptops for working from home if your only priority is to have raw power, because the Scar 15 delivers that.

The 12th gen Core i9 and RTX 3070ti make this a powerhouse that can sweep through any demanding task such as complex Premiere Project, code compiling, or 3D rendering project. The 16GB RAM and the 1TB Storage are upgradeable, allowing you to power up this beast down the line.

The 1440p display is not the most accurate, but it can still cover 95.2% of sRGB and 68.3% DCI-P3 color gamut. The display reaches 350nits of brightness with ease making it useable in broad daylight. And the 300Hz refresh rate makes everything feel buttery smooth.

The speakers on the Scar 15 also sound excellent too, with a decent amount of bass and clear mids.

The typing experience is also not bad, with keys having quick actuation and allowing one to type fairly quickly. The touchpad tracking performance is passable, but it has a built-in capacitive Numpad which is a nice addition for someone who works with numbers.

All this power comes at a price. The Scar 15 suffers from terrible battery life, lasting around only 4-5 hours, though if you plan to use this laptop mostly at work, it should t be a problem. Asus didn’t include a webcam, meaning if you take regular zoom calls, you would have to buy a webcam separately.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Insane raw power
  • Thunderbolt support
  • Great display with low latency
  • Good speakers
Cons
  • Lacks Webcam
  • Poor Battery Life
  • Excessive RGB

Acer Swift X SFX14-41G-R1S6 Creator Laptop

Acer Swift X

CPU: Ryzen 5800u | GPU: RTX 3050  RAM: 16GB DDR4 RAM | Display: 14” 1920×1080 60Hz | Storage: 512GB SSD | Battery: 59Wh | OS: Windows 11

The Acer Swift X is one of the best laptop for working from home. Similar to Acer C433, the Swift X offers a premium build quality with aluminum chassis along with gold accents on the vents and lid. Though there’s still a bit of flex on the chassis, but overall its solid.

It also provides a solid battery backup by lasting comfortably around 8-10hrs. Making it great for commuting without worrying about being near a power outlet.

The keyboard isn’t anything special, the keys have short travel that gives a very mushy feel while typing. Also the keyboard lacks a dedicated Caps lock and pg up and down buttons are really cramped, overall this laptop is not ideal for regular typists.

Creative individuals on the other hand, might be impressed with its 1080p display. It gets bright enough and has nearly 99% sRGB coverage, which can be made even better if you plan to calibrate the display by yourselves.

The Ryzen 5800u and RTX 3050 makes a great pair for handling complex workloads such as video rendering, 3D model rendering. code compiling etc.

So if your work requires demanding hardware and you don’t want to spend over $100, then the Acer Swift X is a really good option. However, we would like to mention that despite having upgradable 512GB storage, the Swift X has soldered 8GB RAM. So that might be a limiting factor in extremely demanding workloads.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Good display for productivity
  • Great performance
  • Amazing battery life

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15.6″ FHD Laptop | Best Budget Laptop for Working From Home

    Lenovo Ideapad 3

    CPU: Ryzen 5500u | GPU: AMD Integrated Graphics  RAM: 8GB DDR4 RAM | Display: 14” 1920×1080 60Hz | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 45Wh | OS: Windows 11

The Ideapad 3 is a budget offering by Lenovo, which is powered by Ryzen 5500U and integrated Radeon Graphics along with 8GB RAM. Being a budget laptop, it doesn’t hold enough horsepower to crush through hardware demanding workloads.

But its powerful enough for someone whos work include working with multiple browser windows and writing on Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. The typing experience is also quite decent, the keys have medium travel with a nice tactile feedback which makes the Ideapad 3 suitable for long typing sessions.

What also makes the Ideapad 3 is expandability. Apart from upgradable RAM, the laptop comes with a M.2 slot and a SATA port. That lets you plug in a HDD for mass storage. And you might need it considering that it comes with 256GB SSD which may not be enough for you.

The display is nothing amazing but it gets the job done, it can get bright around 357nits which allows you to use it outdoors in daylight and the colors it produces are OK. But its 45Wh last comfortably around 9-10hrs during casual use, which is pretty good.

Overall the Ideapad 3 is a solid budget offering by Lenovo. And ends up being one of the best laptops for working from home.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros
    • Very capable CPU
    • Great expandability
    • Great battery life
    Cons
    • Average display, not suitable for graphic design

    Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-36UT

    Acer Aspire 5 A515

    CPU: 11th Gen Core i3-115g4 | GPU: Intel HD Graphics  RAM: 4GB DDR4 RAM | Display: 14” 1920×1080 60Hz | Storage: 128GB SSD | Battery: 45Wh | OS: Windows 11(S Mode)

The Aspire 5 is a budget offering by Acer from last year that is still quite capable in 2022. The Aspire 5 packs in a 11th Gen Intel Core i3. Despite being a low end processor holds up well in simple tasks like web browsing and video streaming. And also gets the job done with ease when it comes to writing word documents and working on spreadsheets.

The Aspire 5 also comes with a full size keyboard that includes a Numpad, which can be ideal if you are someone like an accountant. The keys have short travel which allows for quicker actuation. This allows you to type fairly quickly.

What holds back the Aspire 5, though, is its limiting 4GB RAM. That is barely sufficient these days because WIndows takes half of it. Luckily, you can get an 4GB stick of RAM to upgrade it. And if necessary, get an hard drive that would allow you to get bulk storage for cheap. Considering it only comes with 128GB SSD.

But if you are not willing to buy and upgrade the Aspire 5, then that’s totally fine, you could still check out other options that we have recommended above.

Another weakness of the Aspire 5 is its limiting 1080p display that has washed out colors and awful contrast while also being dim, with its brightness maxing out 225nits.

Though this might sound like the Aspire 5 is the worst laptop ever, one needs to understand that manufacturers cut corners on cheaper devices. Acer did that by providing insufficient RAM and Storage out of the box and a poor display.

If you can switch from a Windows device, we suggest you looking at the Asus Chromebook Flip C433. It surpasses the Acer Aspire 5 in almost every way.

But despite this, if you want to take a closer look at the Aspire 5, you can read our detailed review here.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros
    • Great built quality
    • Decent CPU
    • Great range of ports
    Cons
    • Poor display
    • Insufficient RAM
    • Rattling touchpad

    FAQs

Is 4GB RAM enough for a laptop for work-from-home?

4GB RAM is simply not enough by today’s standards. We recommend at least 8GB RAM. This is because windows alone eats up 2GB of RAM, which doesn’t leave a lot for the rest of the apps and programs, potentially leading your system to get slow and stutter.

Is it better to have a laptop or desktop to work from home?

That depends on the nature of your work. If your work includes using only a web browser along with working on word documents and spreadsheets, then a laptop would serve you fine.

However, if your work requires demanding computer hardware like video editing, illustrations, photoshop ,CAD, rendering 3D models, code compiling etc then you are better off with a desktopwiths a powerful CPU and a dedicated GPU for handling complex workloads.

Which laptop size is best for office work?

This ultimately comes down to preference. If you prefer maximum portability and a compact form factor, a 13” inch laptop would be perfect.

However, if you prefer a full-size keyboard with a bigger screen, something like a 15” or 16” inch laptop would be perfect.
